Score each candidate node from 1 to 5, then apply the recommended weights. Adjust the weights to fit your team, but keep the scoring rationale for future review.

Primary User Location

Count the people who actually use remote desktop or SSH each day, rather than relying only on the company’s registered address. The more concentrated your frequent users are, the more weight this factor deserves.

Compare reliability when pulling dependencies, cloning repositories, pushing commits, and having the runner fetch jobs. When repository access is frequent, sustained throughput matters more than the minimum from a single test.

Identify who ultimately receives archived files, test logs, and encoded results. For large artifacts, test uploads and downloads separately rather than judging only by the remote desktop experience.

Regular Support Hours

Confirm who handles runner reconnections, disk checks, credential updates, and issue reproduction. Support staff should be able to access the node and resolve issues during their own working hours.

CROSS-BORDER CONNECTION RETESTING

Record Test Conditions to Compare Nodes

Cross-border routes vary with local networks, carrier paths, and time of day. OVPS does not replace your real-world testing with latency figures that cannot be guaranteed. Retest both candidates with the same device, network, protocol, and task.

    Record whether you are using wired networking, office Wi-Fi, home broadband, or mobile data. Do not switch the egress connection during testing.

    Specify the Target Node

    Test candidate nodes separately. Do not combine results from different dates, devices, or networks.

    Cover Real Usage Hours

    Cover the team’s usual working hours at minimum, and record the test start time and duration.

    Use remote desktop to check interaction, SSH to check command response, and file transfer to check sustained throughput and interruptions.

Keep Long-Running Tasks Going After Your Team Signs Off

A handoff is not simply dropping a task into another time zone. Fix the inputs, owner, checkpoints, and result location in advance.

    Complete the code commit, lock dependencies, and confirm the test scope. Record the build command, expected artifacts, and failure-handling method in the handoff notes.

    Submit the long-running task to a US node

    Confirm the node, branch, cache strategy, free disk space, and log path, then start batch builds, tests, encoding, or inference tasks.

    Run continuously

    Run the task and retain traceable records

    Continue the task on a US East or US West node. The CI runner saves status, logs, and artifact locations, and stops on predefined conditions.
